Taiwan is pushing to turn its chip and electronics strengths into a drone industry, and Europe looks like the most open door.

• A Chiayi County delegation led by magistrate Weng Chang-liang toured the MSPO defense show in Kielce, Poland, on September 10.
• The show drew more than 1,000 exhibitors from 40 countries, its biggest yet, with drones, counter-drone systems and AI at the center.
• The group met Poland's state defense group PGZ, drone maker WB Group, counter-drone firm APS, and Poland's unmanned systems association.
• Ukraine's battlefield use of drones has made European buyers hungry for suppliers outside China, which Taiwan sees as its opening.
• The pitch: Taiwan has semiconductors, communications gear and precision parts, and now wants joint ventures and licensing deals with European partners.

Outlook: Expect Taiwanese firms to chase more tie-ups with European drone makers as both sides look to cut China out of the supply chain.
