Storm-hit families on Oʻahu's west side are getting emergency food and hot meals, a bright spot in a rough recovery.

• Lopio Social Services ran a second day of emergency food handouts after the storm slammed the Leeward Coast.
• The first day served about 500 households at the Waiʻanae boat harbor, out of an estimated 3,000 families hit on the west side.
• Around 500 homes in the area still had no power since Monday, so people had no way to cook and lost whatever was in their fridges.
• Hot meals were rerouted to those neighborhoods without electricity, and hundreds more food boxes went out at a community learning center.
• Local stores lost their own food and traffic was blocked, so supplies had to be trucked in from town, with the Hawaiʻi Foodbank and local farms pitching in.

Outlook: Distributions will keep running while supplies last, with need staying high until power is fully restored.
