Taiwan says China's coast guard is pushing into waters around Kinmen far more often, raising the risk of an accident close to the Chinese coast.

• It was the third such incursion in a single week, and Taiwan's coast guard says the pattern has shifted from one-off visits to constant pressure.
• Taiwan sent patrol boats to shadow each ship one-on-one and broadcast warnings in Chinese and English to make them leave.
• The Chinese ships also broadcast Mid-Autumn Festival "we are one family" messages, which Taiwan called propaganda dressed up as law enforcement.
• Bad sea conditions at the time made the close-quarters manoeuvring more dangerous for both sides.

Outlook: Expect more frequent Chinese patrols around Kinmen, with Taiwan holding its line of neither backing down nor escalating.
