Taiwan stocks jump in August as 0050 and 0056 ETF savers hit record highs

Sep 09, 2026

Taiwan's stock market surged in August, and small investors piled into index funds at a record pace — good news for anyone already holding Taiwanese stocks.

  • The Taiwan index jumped more than 3,000 points in August, its strongest stretch in a long while.
  • Monthly money going into regular savings plans hit the second-highest level ever, about NT$36.8 billion.
  • The two most popular funds, Yuanta Taiwan 50 (0050) and Yuanta high-dividend (0056), both set records for the number of people saving into them.
  • 0050 has returned roughly 15% a year since it launched, which keeps drawing in buyers; 0056 is on track for its biggest payout ever.
  • The rally is being driven by AI spending, new data centres, and demand for chips and servers.

Outlook: Prices may swing at these high levels because of politics and interest rates, but the AI-driven growth story behind Taiwanese stocks is expected to hold up.
