Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party legislator Lin Tai-hua has been indicted again by the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office, this time on suspicion of embezzling political donations — a serious blow to her political future.

• Prosecutors allege that Lin Tai-hua and her younger brother Lin Tai-jung issued false invoices through two affiliated companies, embezzling more than NT$13.79 million in political donations.
• She raised a combined NT$124 million across the 2020 and 2024 legislative elections, and NT$100 million still remained in the account the day before the election.
• The embezzled money went to purposes unrelated to the elections, including paying the tax bills of her office's clients and the taxes of three associations, with one sum set aside as a private slush fund free of legal constraints.
• Lin Tai-hua denies wrongdoing, saying that after her father's death her brother handled all political donation filings and that she was unfamiliar with the process.
• She had already been indicted for fraudulently claiming NT$14.96 million in assistants' fees, a case still before the Kaohsiung District Court; the new case has been added as a related case.

Outlook: The two cases will be tried jointly at the Kaohsiung District Court, and the verdict will determine whether she can continue to run for office.
