The 2026 Tainan city council races are shaping up badly for the DPP in the mountain-area District 4 and tightly contested in the tech-belt District 5.

• District 4 covers Yujing, Nanxi, Nanhua and Zuozhen, with one seat and two candidates.
• The incumbent, independent Chou Yi-chi, is the son of a former KMT lawmaker and won over 65% last time, leaving DPP challenger Lai Mao-ching well behind.
• District 5 around the southern science park has seven candidates fighting for five seats — four DPP, two KMT, one independent.
• The DPP holds all five now and wants a clean sweep again, but its own candidates risk splitting the same voter base.
• Expelled former KMT member Li Wen-chun is running as an independent and was the top vote-getter here in two earlier elections.

Outlook: District 4 looks safe for the incumbent, while District 5 stays too close to call as the blue camp tries to break the DPP's hold.
