Taiwan's prosecutors are leaning on a sports star and smartphone reporting to fight vote-buying ahead of elections — a push aimed at cleaner campaigns.

• Badminton great Tai Tzu-ying has agreed to front an anti-vote-buying campaign run jointly by prosecutors in Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Penghu and Qiaotou.
• Her pitch: fair play in sport and fair elections are the same idea, and everyone with a phone can act as an "invisible referee."
• Prosecutors launched an official LINE account so people can report suspected vote-buying with one tap, using photos and video as evidence.
• Justice Minister Cheng Ming-chien framed it simply — games are won on skill, elections on the public's will.
• Tai, recently retired from competition, also ran a live workout session at the launch event.

Outlook: Expect the reporting tool and the celebrity push to be used heavily as Taiwan moves toward its next round of local elections.
