Taiwan has blocked pork from Kinmen for now after a dead pig washed ashore carrying African swine fever — bad news for Kinmen pork producers, but a precaution meant to protect Taiwan's pig farms.

• A pig carcass that drifted in from outside Taiwan was found on the Kinmen coast and tested positive for African swine fever.
• Kinmen's ban already covered live pigs; it now extends to pork and pork products going to Taiwan's main island and other outlying islands until Sept 14.
• The carcass was burned and buried on the spot, and the area was disinfected.
• Vets checked 22 pig farms and more than 5,000 pigs within 10 kilometers, and all looked healthy.
• This is the fourth such case this year and the 24th since 2018, showing infected carcasses keep drifting to Kinmen's shores.

Outlook: The ban lifts only after a full week with no new cases, so coastal patrols and border checks stay tight into mid-September.
