Investment Trusts Net Buy Nearly NT$10 Billion; Taishin Shinkong Financial Tops the List, UMC Second
Taiwan's stock market jumped sharply on Monday as chipmakers led a broad rally, good news for investors and especially for financial stocks that drew heavy institutional buying.
- The main Taiwan index rose 775 points to close near 47,326, with most listed shares gaining.
- Local investment trusts poured close to NT$10 billion into stocks, mostly into banks and financial holding companies.
- Taishin Shinkong Financial drew the biggest buying — a tenth straight day — though the stock still finished lower as ordinary shareholders sold into the strength.
- Chipmakers UMC and Powerchip also ranked high on the buy list, alongside E.Sun, KGI, First Financial and other bank names.
Outlook: Fund managers look set to keep rotating money into financial shares, but the gap between their buying and everyday investors cashing out suggests choppy trading ahead.
