Foreign investors pour NT$88.3 billion into Taiwan stocks, with AUO the top buy
Taiwan's stock market jumped sharply on Monday as foreign money flooded in, a strong day for local investors and especially for panel maker AUO's 650,000 shareholders.
- The Taiwan index rose 775 points to close above 47,300, led by the big chipmakers.
- Foreign investors bought NT$88.3 billion of Taiwan stocks in a single day; all institutional buyers together added over NT$113 billion.
- AUO was the favorite, drawing more than 156,000 lots of foreign buying — the stock briefly hit its daily limit and closed up 7%.
- Money also went into memory and chip names like Powerchip, Winbond, Innolux, UMC and TSMC.
- The buying is spread across cheaper, high-volume chip and panel stocks rather than just the market leaders.
Outlook: If foreign buying keeps up at this pace, Taiwan's chip and panel stocks likely have more room to run in the near term.
