Su Chiao-hui and Puma Shen campaign together at a Taipei taxi union event

Sep 06, 2026

Taiwan's DPP mayoral candidates for Taipei and New Taipei appeared together to court taxi drivers and labor groups, a positive sign for their joint campaign push across the two cities.

  • New Taipei candidate Su Chiao-hui joined Taipei candidate Puma Shen at a Taipei taxi drivers' union banquet, where the two sang together and worked the crowd.
  • Su promised to fold taxis into city tourism and elderly-care plans, using drivers to connect older residents with care services.
  • She pledged to review taxi rules so they protect both passengers and drivers, plus higher work-injury payments and legal aid for labor disputes.
  • More than a hundred union groups formed a labor support committee for her campaign last week, with several major union heads backing her publicly.
  • Su also greeted current Taipei mayor Chiang Wan-an at the event, and urged voters in each city to back the pair as a package.

Outlook: Expect both campaigns to keep leaning on organized labor and union endorsements as they build a joint Taipei–New Taipei ticket.
