Li Si-chuan, the Kuomintang's candidate for New Taipei City mayor, braved the rain to campaign door-to-door in Sanxia, where vendors and residents gave him an enthusiastic reception — a positive sign for his campaign.

• Wearing a raincoat, Li walked the length of the Sanxia evening market, shaking hands with residents one by one as he canvassed for votes.
• Vendors presented him with radishes as a token of good fortune, chants of "dongsuan" (get elected) rang out along the route, and residents voiced their support to his face.
• New Taipei City councillors Hung Chia-chun, Lin Chin-chieh and Lu Chia-kai accompanied him on the walkabout, first paying respects at a Tudigong temple before entering the market.
• Li pledged to help expand En Chu Kong Hospital and to strengthen the division of labour with Tucheng Hospital and Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, shoring up medical care in the area south of the Dahan River.

Outlook: Medical resources look set to become his signature policy platform in the Sanxia area, and his door-to-door canvassing is expected to keep gathering momentum.
