A public fight has broken out inside Taiwan's KMT over who gets to run for Changhua county chief, and it is bad news for a party already struggling in the area.

• Changhua county chief Wang Hui-mei went public with a long statement saying party headquarters ignored her warnings about the nomination.
• She says she has not spoken to party chair Cheng Li-wen since mid-May, after Cheng stopped taking her calls.
• Wang says the party pushed candidate Wei Ping-cheng from the start, telling her money and resources were not a problem.
• She twice asked the party to hold off on the nomination and got no answer, and now refuses to take blame for the campaign's fate.
• Party spokesman Chen I-hsin said the chair is taking it seriously but remembers some of those meetings differently.

Outlook: The rift leaves the KMT's Changhua campaign without local backing, and Wang is dodging questions about whether she will even show up to the candidate's campaign launch.
