Two DPP-backed candidates filed together for Taipei's city council election on the final registration day, setting up an attack on Mayor Chiang Wan-an's record on child safety.

• Chen Yu-hsin, a lawyer running in Neihu-Nangang, hammered the city government over a string of cases where children were hurt, plus flooding and an expensive sunshade project.
• Ma Yu-wen, running in Zhongzheng-Wanhua, pitched market rebuilds, faster urban renewal, repairs for old buildings and better transport links.
• Ma also promised help for parents, benefits for seniors, health programs and pet-friendly rules.
• Former legislator Tuan Yi-kang and sitting councilor Li Chien-chang escorted them to the election commission and backed both candidates.

Outlook: With registration closed, the nine-in-one campaign now moves into full swing, and child safety looks set to be the main line of attack on the mayor.
