Lee Ssu-chuan and Chiang Wan-an Campaign Together, Stressing a Handover from Hou Yu-ih to Pursue Shared Prosperity for Taipei and New Taipei

Sep 05, 2026

Kuomintang New Taipei mayoral candidate Lee Ssu-chuan and Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an appeared together to canvass for votes for the first time, drumming up support for the blue camp's campaign across Taipei and New Taipei in what amounts to a favourable opening for the KMT.

  • Lee Ssu-chuan made Chiang Wan-an his companion on his first campaign engagement after registering his candidacy, with the two visiting a temple in Banqiao and walking through a traditional market to canvass for votes.
  • Lee said the baton he is taking up is that of incumbent mayor Hou Yu-ih, and that he will build on the foundation Hou has laid.
  • He singled out his opponent Su Chiao-hui as having taken up the baton of her father Su Tseng-chang, drawing a contrast between the two sides' political lineages.
  • Chiang Wan-an highlighted his own record, including the opening of the Taipei Dome, the start of construction on six MRT lines, and Nvidia's confirmed move to the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park, stressing that the two of them will work together to advance joint development across Taipei and New Taipei.
  • Hou Yu-ih has agreed to attend Lee Ssu-chuan's first large-scale campaign rally on 12 September, a clear show of blue-camp unity.

Outlook: With the 12 September rally approaching, the blue camp will keep building momentum around the theme of "shared prosperity for Taipei and New Taipei," setting up a head-to-head contest with the Democratic Progressive Party's Su Chiao-hui.
