The lineup for Penghu's county magistrate election is now locked in at six candidates, and the KMT contender is taking the fight straight into his main rival's stronghold.

• Registration closed with six people running for one seat.
• KMT candidate Chen Chen-chung spent the day door-knocking in Chongguang, the home village and vote base of independent candidate Yeh Chu-lin.
• An afternoon rally there drew more than 120 people, joined by the party's Magong mayoral candidate, local councillors and the county KMT chairman.
• Chen pitched local development: better facilities around the Mazu statue and temple tourism area, shaded walkways, a craft market, road repairs in the village lanes, and a plan to restore the area's seagrass beds and shrimp habitat.
• Showing up in a rival's backyard is a deliberate signal that the KMT thinks the independent's base is winnable.

Outlook: Expect more village-by-village visits and rallies as the campaign heats up ahead of the year-end vote.
