Foreign investors buy Taiwan stocks, Compal leads the buying

Sep 04, 2026

Taiwan's stock market bounced back hard on Friday, and foreign money poured in — good news for local investors after a weak stretch.

  • The main index jumped nearly 700 points as tech, financial, and traditional industry stocks all rose together.
  • Foreign investors flipped to buying, putting more than NT$56 billion into Taiwan shares in one day.
  • Laptop maker Compal was the biggest winner, with foreign buying pushing its stock up over 7%.
  • Other heavily bought names included chipmaker UMC, Hon Hai (Foxconn), Wistron, Yageo, and Quanta — mostly tech hardware tied to the AI supply chain.

Outlook: If foreign buying keeps up, Taiwan's tech-heavy market should hold its gains, though these flows can reverse quickly.
