After the "blue-white alliance" between the Taiwan People's Party and the Kuomintang broke down in Zhubei, anxiety among grassroots members has spread to Changhua — bad news for the two parties' prospects of coordinating ahead of the year-end elections.

• Wen Tsung-yu, chair of the TPP's Changhua branch, floated the idea of putting forward deputy chair Lai Ying-chu as the party's own candidate for Changhua County magistrate, only for party chairman Huang Kuo-chang to shoot it down on the spot.
• Huang acknowledged that the grassroots in Changhua are highly anxious, but stressed that the TPP will stick to its original plan, with a year-end goal of a "home run" in council and township representative seats.
• With coordination over the Zhubei mayoral race having collapsed, the blue and white camps traded blame, and Huang made a veiled criticism of KMT candidate Hsu Hsin-ying for failing to keep her word.
• Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an is still pushing to "maximise blue-white seats", playing down friction between the two parties with the line "brothers climb the mountain, each making their own effort".
• Chen Pei-chi, wife of Ko Wen-je, has tested positive for COVID-19 and has a fever, and all her scheduled appearances accompanying him to register have been cancelled.

Outlook: With just over eighty days to go before the election, blue-white coordination looks difficult to repair, and the two parties may field separate candidates in several cities and counties, splitting their vote.
