A team of young candidates has signed up to run for Zhudong township council seats, pitching generational change in a town losing its young people — a modest but real shift in local Taiwanese politics.

• Four young candidates — Hsiao Chung-ming, Peng Chih-hao, Lo Ching-fen and Yeh Jih-chia — registered together as the "Turning Zhudong" slate.
• Hsinchu County councilor Cheng Chao-chung backed them in person and assembled the team.
• The pitch: Zhudong is bleeding young residents, and local policy needs younger voices to keep them from leaving.
• The slate's stated goal is to make Zhudong attractive enough for young people to return, settle and eventually upgrade the township to city status.
