Prosecutors in Taiwan have charged a Taoyuan police IT officer with rigging city police contracts and running an online casino through police computers, a serious corruption case inside the force itself.

• A police information office officer secretly set up his own IT company and won 14 contracts he himself managed, pocketing more than NT$110 million.
• He also built gambling software and used his control of police servers and firewalls to let operators run an online baccarat casino through police systems.
• An investigator from a government investigation bureau was paid to help write the gambling program, pulling a second law enforcement agency into the case.
• A colleague in the police information office signed off on the fake contract work himself and then took millions in "consulting" fees from the same company.
• Cash was seized, proceeds were hidden through property and cars bought in other people's names, and one payout was disguised as a "scholarship."

Outlook: Prosecutors have indicted five people and are asking the court for more than ten years in prison for the main defendant plus confiscation of all illegal gains.
