Former Taiwan People's Party legislator Huang Shan-shan has announced she is withdrawing from electoral politics, ending a campaign career spanning nearly three decades and depriving the TPP of one of its best-known faces.

• Huang Shan-shan announced on Facebook that she will not take part in any future elections.
• Since first running for office at the age of 28, she has fought nine election campaigns: six for Taipei city councillor, two for the legislature, and one for Taipei mayor.
• She said her task for this stage of her life is complete, that she has a clear conscience, and that she wants to return to the life and work she enjoys.
• TPP chairman Huang Kuo-chang, responding while campaigning in Yilan, said he believes she can shine in any position and make important contributions to Taiwan.
• She stressed that her original goal of making Taiwan better remains unchanged, and that she will continue to take part in public affairs in another capacity.

Outlook: The TPP will be without a veteran campaigner in next year's local elections, and Huang Shan-shan may move into a non-electoral public affairs role.
