Former Kinmen County Magistrate Yang Cheng-wu has withdrawn from the county magistrate race at the end of the year, allowing the Kuomintang to avoid an intra-party contest in Kinmen — good news for the pan-blue camp's electoral prospects.

• Yang Cheng-wu announced he would not run, accompanied by party Vice Chairman Lee Chien-lung, and said he would stay in the party and continue working hard.
• Chen Yu-chen becomes the Kuomintang's sole candidate in Kinmen. She thanked the party's central leadership for stepping in to coordinate and said she would do everything possible to win the seat.
• The party's central leadership is also busy putting out fires: former Hsinchu County Magistrate Fan Chen-tsung sharply criticised the lack of blue-white cooperation as a strategic error, to Party Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun's face.
• The nomination of Taoyuan city councillors has also run into trouble: veteran councillor Chan Chiang-tsun initially refused to accept the party's recommendation, and Cheng Li-wun personally went to his door to deliver the recommendation letter.
• In Taichung, Legislative Yuan Vice President Chiang Chi-chen ran four kilometres in the red shorts of the marine frogman unit to register his candidacy, with Mayor Lu Shiow-yen appearing alongside him.

Outlook: The year-end nine-in-one elections are being treated as a prelude to 2028. The Kuomintang's next difficulty is not Kinmen, but integration across the country and whether the blue and white camps can work together.
