Where Hawaii's visitors are flying in from

Sep 02, 2026

Air travel to Hawaii is holding up, with more seats coming from California but fewer from the Pacific Northwest — a mixed but broadly steady picture for the islands' tourism economy.

  • Los Angeles remains the biggest source of visitors by far, with seat numbers up 8% from last year.
  • Seattle slipped 4%, the only major market losing ground this month.
  • San Francisco jumped 11%, and the wider Bay Area would rank second if Oakland and San Jose were counted with it.
  • Las Vegas, San Diego, Tokyo, Phoenix, Portland and Denver fill out the rest, each far smaller than the top three.
  • Every other airport sends noticeably fewer travelers than these leaders.

Outlook: California looks set to keep driving Hawaii's visitor growth while the Northwest lags.
