Taiwan's Core Pacific City corruption case is moving into appeal, and prosecutors want a convicted former city official kept from leaving the country.

• Huang Ching-mao, former head of Taipei's urban development bureau, got six and a half years plus loss of civil rights for improperly benefiting a company he oversaw.
• His travel and sea-departure ban runs out on September 13, and prosecutors argue he could flee and want it extended.
• His lawyers say there is no flight risk: he served over 40 years as a civil servant, has no record, and showed up for the verdict.
• Two co-defendants, a former deputy mayor and a former committee secretary, pleaded guilty and got suspended sentences, which prosecutors use to argue the case against Huang is strong.

Outlook: The High Court will rule on the travel ban separately, and the main appeal hearing for former Taipei mayor Ko Wen-je and three co-defendants is set for September 8.
