Kuomintang Taipei city councillor Chin Hui-chu has formally registered her bid for re-election, campaigning on an image of more than three decades of clean public service — a signal of stability to her supporters, and, within her party, a declaration that she is willing to criticise a mayor from her own ranks.

• Accompanied by more than a hundred supporters, Chin completed her registration at the Taipei City Election Commission, seeking another term as councillor.
• Asked about criticism that faulting the city administration harms a mayor from her own party, she said: first be a good councillor, then be a Kuomintang councillor.
• She stressed that elected representatives have no job for life — lose the election and you are out of work, so every campaign starts from scratch.
• She is campaigning on a record of more than thirty years without corruption or scandal, one that can withstand scrutiny.
• Her campaign headquarters is scheduled to open on 16 October; she is still looking for office space of 40 to 50 ping in the Minsheng Community.

Outlook: In the run-up to the election, she is expected to keep consolidating her vote with an image of seniority and integrity, while calibrating the balance between scrutinising the city administration and her position within the party.
