Taiwan's opposition alliance has locked in a joint candidate for Chiayi City mayor, a boost for the KMT-TPP partnership heading into the 2026 local elections.

• Former TPP lawmaker Chang Chi-kai registered his run for Chiayi City mayor, backed jointly by the KMT and the TPP.
• Sitting mayor Huang Min-hui and TPP chairman Huang Kuo-chang escorted him to the election commission to show the alliance is holding.
• Huang Kuo-chang called the two parties' cooperation in Chiayi unbreakable; Huang Min-hui urged supporters to unite behind the candidate chosen by polling and dismissed rumors of a split.
• Chang is running on continuing the current administration's flagship projects plus his own fifteen-point platform, and challenged DPP candidate Wang Mei-hui to a public policy debate.

Outlook: The blue-white alliance now faces a straight fight with the DPP in Chiayi City, and how well it holds there will be read as a test case for opposition cooperation elsewhere.
