Taiwan's Legislative Yuan cut the Presidential Office's budget, inadvertently causing Mid-Autumn Festival mooncake orders from sheltered workshops to be cancelled — bad news for disadvantaged workers, and a source of internal friction within the Kuomintang.

• KMT legislator Weng Hsiao-ling proposed cutting and freezing the Presidential Office's state affairs fund, which in turn led to the cancellation of the sheltered workshops' mooncake orders.
• Faced with public backlash, Weng Hsiao-ling did not admit any fault, and even thanked the party caucus for the support that allowed the proposal to pass.
• DPP legislators criticised all the Blue and White legislators who voted in favour as accomplices, noting that several of them are preparing to run for city and county mayoralties.
• In an effort to repair the damage to their image, Chiang Wan-an, Cheng Li-wun and others were reported to be paying out of their own pockets to restore the orders, with the Taichung city government also set to place an order.
• Weng Hsiao-ling has declared that she will push for even deeper cuts to next year's central government budget.

Outlook: The fight over budget cuts will carry over into the review of next year's general budget and become a focal point of attack and defence in the year-end mayoral and county magistrate elections.
