A corruption probe into a farm road built next to a resort in Taitung, Taiwan has swept up seven county councillors — all from the KMT-led "blue" camp — and most are still running for re-election.

• A fellow councillor raised the alarm, saying the joint funding may amount to group profiteering or collusion, and prosecutors are now investigating.
• The deputy speaker put in the largest share, with five others chipping in smaller amounts and one former councillor adding the rest.
• Council speaker Wu Hsiu-hua also chairs the KMT's county branch, and the party has renominated five of the seven for another term.
• One of those named was already convicted years ago for falsely claiming councillor attendance and travel money, and lost her seat as a result.

Outlook: Prosecutors will decide whether the pooled grants were coordinated profiteering, and the case lands right as Taitung heads into local election campaigning.
