Ørsted's Taiwan offshore wind capacity reaches 1.82GW, making it Taiwan's second-largest foreign investor
Ørsted has finished a second big offshore wind project off Taiwan's Changhua coast, good news for Taiwan's green power supply and for chipmakers that need clean electricity to sell abroad.
- The newly completed Greater Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms add to the ones opened in 2024, bringing Ørsted's Taiwan total to 1.82GW.
- Ørsted is now the second-largest foreign investor in Taiwan, ten years after setting up its Asia-Pacific base there.
- Green power is tied closely to the chip industry — it is becoming a ticket for Taiwanese manufacturers to sell into global markets.
- Taiwan now has over 500 offshore turbines and 4.9GW installed, ranking third in the world for new capacity added last year.
- Cathay Life and related Cathay companies own half of one farm and will take a majority stake in the other once it connects to the grid.
Outlook: Taiwan plans to auction 8GW of new offshore wind capacity every four years, aiming for roughly 19GW by 2035 and up to 28GW by 2039.
