Huang Shu-chun Registers for Re-election Bid While Pregnant, with Ho Po-wen Leading a Motorcade in Support

The DPP's council election campaigns in New Taipei's Banqiao and the Wugu-Taishan-Linkou area are under way, and for incumbent councillors Huang Shu-chun and Lee Yu-hsiang they represent a step toward shoring up their core support.

  • Banqiao city councillor Huang Shu-chun, who is pregnant and accompanied by her husband, completed her registration for re-election at the New Taipei City Election Commission.
  • DPP deputy secretary-general Ho Po-wen, legislator Lin Chu-yin and city councillor Lee Yu-hsiang appeared to lend their support, with a motorcade making its way from the joint service office all the way to the election commission.
  • Ho Po-wen said both councillors came up through his service office as grassroots staff without any backing, and expressed the hope that all of the party's nominated council candidates would win at the end of the year.
  • Lin Chu-yin pointed to a risk: young candidates with good reputations can easily end up as the "top loser," so their vote base must be carefully secured.
  • Lee Yu-hsiang said that for more than three years he has been the only DPP councillor in the Wugu-Taishan-Linkou area, and he will register on 3 September.

Outlook: The year-end New Taipei City election will centre on Su Chiao-hui's mayoral campaign, with the DPP pushing for a clean sweep of council seats.
