Taiwan's spy-catching agency has confirmed that one of its former directors was pulled aside for questioning by Chinese security agents on almost every day of a private trip to China, an embarrassing episode for Taipei's intelligence community.

• Chang Chi-ping, who led Taiwan's Investigation Bureau until 2012, was called in for "coffee chats" by Chinese security officers on six of seven days while traveling there with other retired bureau officials.
• The bureau says it contacted him afterwards to check on him, but will not say what the Chinese agents asked about.
• It stressed he has been retired for over a decade and has had no involvement in agency business since leaving.
• The trip happened a year or two ago; the story only leaked recently and is now drawing heavy attention in Taiwan.
