Kitchen Scraps Season 3, Episode 3: Two home cooks battle over poi and kalua pig
Two self-taught Hawaii home cooks faced off in a friendly two-round cooking contest, and the underdog flight attendant walked away with the title.
- Kamele Lindsay Dion, a Waianae-raised cook now living in Las Vegas, took on Deia, a Palolo-born flight attendant and mom of two.
- Round one used frozen poi: Kamele made a poi acai bowl, Deia made a poi pancake with lomi tomato and spicy poi sauce.
- Deia won the round because judges wanted the mystery ingredient cooked into the dish, not just used as a topping.
- Round two used kalua pig with a surprise chili garlic oil twist — Kamele made crispy kalua wontons, Deia made a kalua pig and cabbage lumpia.
- Judges gave the night to Deia, praising her balanced vinegar sauce and the crunch of the vegetables, despite a slightly soggy pan-fried wrapper.
Outlook: Deia takes the championship board home to her toughest critics — her kids — as the season rolls on with new cooks and new mystery ingredients.
