By bringing together three female candidates and youth voters in Miaoli, a traditionally difficult constituency, the DPP is sending a positive signal for a Green camp hoping to turn the tables locally, while putting pressure on the local factions that have long held power.

• Miaoli County magistrate candidate Chen Pin-an, Miaoli City mayoral candidate Lin Yueh-chin and Zhuolan Township mayoral candidate Chen Chun-nuan jointly established a youth support group, campaigning on the themes of women in politics and cross-generational cooperation.
• Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim appeared at the event to stump for the three, drawing on her own experience contesting a difficult constituency in Hualien to boost their campaigns.
• Chen Pin-an is centring her platform on youth policy: participatory budgeting, interest-free loans for study abroad, and an angel fund to help young people start businesses.
• On the problem of young entrepreneurs losing their shopfronts when landlords take the premises back, she proposes that the county government renovate older buildings and use a sublease-and-management model with long-term contracts to keep rents stable.
• Hsiao Bi-khim tied the local race to central government resources, stressing that the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli Great Silicon Valley plan should bring industry and jobs to Miaoli.

Outlook: The Green camp will make the central government's Great Silicon Valley and NT$10 billion youth programmes its main selling points going forward, seeking to prise open Miaoli's established political map in the year-end local elections.
