Hawaii has put heart-restarting devices in dozens of state buildings, good news for anyone who works in or visits them.

• More than 160 AEDs are now installed across 40 state buildings on five islands.
• The rollout took seven months and cost $4 million.
• Most of the devices are on Oahu, with the rest spread across Hawaii Island, Maui, Kauai and Molokai.
• 920 state workers have been trained to use them, since ambulances and fire crews often cannot arrive fast enough to save someone in cardiac arrest.
