Hawaii has put life-saving heart devices in dozens of state buildings, a clear win for public safety.

• The state's Department of Accounting and General Services installed more than 160 new AEDs across 40 buildings.
• Over 900 state workers were trained to use them, since ambulances and fire crews often cannot arrive fast enough.
• Oahu got the bulk of the units, with the rest split among Hawaii Island, Maui, and Kauai.
• A similar rollout at Hawaii's airports pushed the survival rate for sudden cardiac arrest from zero to over 70%.
