TSMC's advanced packaging plant in Chiayi is pulling a wave of well-paid jobs into southern Taiwan, good news for local workers and for anyone betting on Taiwan's chip buildout.

• 22 TSMC suppliers held a joint hiring fair in Chiayi, offering close to a thousand openings across engineering, plant operations, equipment, and automation.
• Many of the jobs pay well above the local norm, with monthly salaries topping NT$40,000 and some over NT$60,000.
• Over 600 people showed up and about half were matched to a job on the spot.
• The hiring runs the full chain — building the plant, installing equipment, then keeping production running — so it is not limited to degree-holding engineers.
• Chiayi County is pairing job training programs with placement to keep workers from leaving for other regions.
