Taiwan's People Party (TPP) is weighing a business-owner candidate for the Changhua county chief race, adding a third force to a contest already split between the KMT and the DPP.

• The TPP's Changhua branch says deputy chairman Lai Yin-chu could run, giving third-party voters someone to back.
• Lai runs a precision manufacturing company and has spent years pushing local industry, recently launching a group promoting upgrades to Changhua's status and infrastructure.
• He is currently walking a loop around the county; the TPP says his decision will be clear when party chairman Huang Kuo-chang registers candidates.
• Former TPP chairman Ko Wen-je is campaigning in Changhua and said he is glad to be out of party administration, joking his heart could not take the daily reversals.
• The KMT's candidate declined to comment and the DPP's camp said it respects others' decisions; Ko was heckled by residents while canvassing but called that normal in a democracy.

Outlook: Changhua's race looks set to become a three- or four-way fight once registration opens, splitting the anti-incumbent vote.
