Taiwan's stock market takes a seat at the world's main table

Aug 27, 2026

Taiwan's economy and stock market are having a standout year, good news for Taiwanese companies and investors as profits and market value hit records.

  • Listed Taiwanese companies earned about NT$3.6 trillion in the first half, with second-quarter profit alone matching a full pre-2019 year.
  • Full-year profit could reach NT$8 trillion, which also means a big jump in income and corporate tax revenue.
  • 183 companies earned more than their entire share capital, and four — Phison, Innodisk, Wiwynn and Chuan Hu — posted earnings above NT$100 per share.
  • Taiwan's market value now ranks fourth in the world, and global exchanges are coming to Taipei asking to cooperate.
  • Companies are spending heavily on new capacity: TSMC's capital spending is set to rise again next year, with ASE and other chip packagers also expanding.

Outlook: Strong AI-driven earnings should keep pushing Taiwanese share prices and factory investment higher, though a stumble in Korea's market showed how fast sentiment can swing.
