Taipei's DPP mayoral candidate says he will consult former mayors across party lines, arguing good policies should outlive political rivalry.

• Shen Po-yang plans to seek input from Chen Shui-bian and is open to talking with Ma Ying-jeou, Hau Lung-bin and Ko Wen-je.
• He was an early critic of Ko, dating back to before Ko's first mayoral run in 2013, and says criticism does not mean throwing out what worked.
• He credits the Ko administration on traffic data, food safety tracking and social housing, and wants to know why some of those efforts stalled.
• He also points to Hau's YouBike program as an example of a rival's policy worth continuing.
• He wants to hear directly what internal obstacles blocked policies from moving forward.

Outlook: Expect more cross-party consultations as the Taipei mayoral race builds toward the campaign season.
