Puma Shen canvasses Xiangshan Park, and supporters' homemade merchandise proves a hit
As the Taipei mayoral race warms up, DPP candidate Puma Shen went canvassing at Xiangshan Park in Xinyi District in the early morning, where the lively atmosphere was a positive sign for his campaign.
- Shen greeted people out for morning exercise alongside several Taipei city councillors and council candidates, and also joined in a dance workout and played basketball.
- Crowds of "Yang Liu" (Shen wave) supporters queued up for autographs and photos.
- Drawing the most attention were red and yellow streamers printed with a cartoon Shen sporting an afro, made by supporters themselves and then handed over to the team of Wu Pei-yi, chair of the DPP's Taipei chapter, for distribution.
- Members of the public also brought hand-drawn portraits and comics, and raised municipal issues on the spot, such as tree trimming and the cleanliness of public toilets.
Outlook: This publicity buzz, driven spontaneously by supporters, looks set to further expand Shen's visibility in Taipei through subsequent canvassing stops and livestreams.
