The race for Changhua County magistrate may gain another contender — bad news for the KMT's nominee Wei Ping-cheng, and possibly good news for the DPP's Chen Su-yueh.

• Three candidates are already in the race: the DPP's Chen Su-yueh, the KMT's Wei Ping-cheng, and Chiu Chien-fu, who left the DPP to run as an independent.
• Online comments were a mix of support and scepticism, with jibes such as "why agonise when he can't win anyway" outnumbering the words of encouragement.

Outlook: With only days left before the registration deadline, Ko Cheng-fang must either leave the party and run — splitting the pan-blue vote in two — or drop the idea altogether.
