Fire at Vanguard's Taoyuan wafer fab forces evacuation of 200 workers

Aug 27, 2026

A late-night fire broke out at chipmaker Vanguard International Semiconductor's third wafer plant in Taoyuan, Taiwan — bad for the company's near-term output, though nobody was hurt.

  • The fire started in a rooftop machine room of a four-story building at the Luzhu district plant and burned a small area.
  • More than 200 workers were evacuated during the night shift, and a headcount confirmed no injuries.
  • Firefighters put the blaze out within an hour, sending dozens of crews and trucks to the site.
  • The cause, the financial damage, and any hit to production are still unknown.

Outlook: Vanguard will need to assess equipment damage before saying whether chip output at the plant is disrupted.
