A small overnight fire at a Taiwanese chip plant caused little damage, a relief for chip buyers already nervous about supply from Taiwan.

• The fire broke out late Thursday on the top floor of Vanguard's Fab 3 in Taoyuan and was out within an hour.
• All 200 workers on site got out safely and nobody was hurt.
• Main equipment, power and production lines were untouched, so most of the plant is running normally again.
• Only the air pollution control gear was knocked out, and it should be back online by the end of the week.
• Vanguard is a small player making older, simpler chips, so the wider chip market barely notices; TSMC, which owns a fifth of the company, dominates the industry.

Outlook: Production should return to full capacity within days, with the cause of the fire still under investigation.
