A former JP Morgan Chase executive told Congress that Jeffrey Epstein set up his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, more evidence of Epstein's ties to powerful people that raises questions about who protected him.

• Jes Staley, once a top JP Morgan executive, testified that Epstein got him onto Netanyahu's calendar after he couldn't get a meeting himself.
• Staley also met former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak through the same connections, and said the Netanyahu meeting was JP Morgan business.
• He described their friendship as deep — Epstein called him family — and said they only discussed the Middle East in general terms, which is hard to believe.
• Epstein's contacts in Israel appear to go back to the late 1980s, yet federal prosecutors have not opened an investigation.
• The questioning happened behind closed doors before the House Oversight Committee, not in a courtroom.

Outlook: Expect more names and more closed-door testimony from the Oversight Committee, but no criminal case unless prosecutors change course.
