A former Changhua City mayor running for county chief as an independent says presidential office advisers pressured him to drop out, and most of them are refusing to talk.

• Chiu Chien-fu lost the DPP primary and is now running as an independent for Changhua county chief.
• He says three presidential office national policy advisers phoned him since June, urging him to quit "for the greater good," but he will not name them.
• Of the four advisers from Changhua, one said "no contact," one said "no comment," and a third declined to respond.
• The fourth, a Chinese medicine doctor, could not be reached.
• One adviser did hit back, saying Chiu owes his whole career to the DPP and now only attacks the party.

Outlook: With 92 days until the vote, the split on the green side looks set to stay, and Chiu shows no sign of backing out.
