Typhoon Shadel sea warning: Shei-Pa National Park closed to all visitors

Aug 26, 2026

Taiwan has shut Shei-Pa National Park completely as Typhoon Shadel approaches, bad news for hikers with trips booked but a straightforward safety call.

  • The park banned all entry to its protected and controlled areas as soon as the sea warning went out on Thursday morning.
  • Every entry permit already issued is now void, so anyone holding one has to reapply later.
  • Hikers already up in the mountains are being told to come down as fast as they safely can.
  • Typhoon weather in the high mountains brings sudden changes plus landslides and falling rocks, the main reason for the blanket closure.

Outlook: The park stays shut until the warning lifts and crews finish checking trails and facilities for damage, with reopening announced separately.
