Power is slowly coming back on Hawaii Island, good news for the 1,300 customers reconnected today but still frustrating for the 1,600 homes left in the dark.

• Hawaiian Electric got a key transmission line running again between Kilauea and Pahala.
• That brought power back to about 1,300 more customers.
• Roughly 1,600 customers are still waiting, with crews working around the clock.
• The military flew in extra help on a C-17 from March Air Reserve Base in California.
• Air Force and Hawaii National Guard members helped unload utility trucks and supplies in Hilo.

Outlook: With more crews and equipment now on the island, the remaining outages should be cleared over the next few days.
