Former Taiwan People's Party legislator Li Chen-hsiu has announced she is entering the race for mayor of Zhubei City in Hsinchu County, a development that is bad news for efforts to coordinate between the KMT and the TPP, and one that again puts her eligibility to run at the centre of controversy.

• The KMT and the TPP had originally agreed on a "blue-white alliance" in Zhubei, but the two parties each put forward their own candidate and have yet to reach a deal; Li's entry makes the split more apparent.

• Huang Kuo-chang has played down the impact, stressing that running for office is a civic right and that it will not affect Chiu Chen-yuan's campaign.
