Zhongyuan sacrificial rites are under way at two of Pingtung's largest temples. For worshippers it is an important festival; for road users, it means watching out for traffic controls in the surrounding area.

• Cihfong Temple is holding a three-day Pudu ritual starting on the 25th, beginning with the opening drum, followed by the release of water lanterns and the Pudu food offering.
• The ritual is led by newly appointed board chairman Chen Ming-shun together with the directors and supervisors. Most of the Pudu offerings will be donated to disadvantaged families and low-income households.
• Yuhuang Temple is holding an eight-day Liang Emperor Repentance ritual for ancestors, karmic creditors and pets, with worshippers required to attend daily to offer incense.
• Worshippers taking part in the Pudu may set out their offerings only after 12 noon; once the rites are complete, the offerings may be taken back or donated.
• During the Pudu period, sections of Zhongshan Road and Qingnian Road in front of the temples are subject to traffic controls, and passing motorists should take note.

Outlook: Pudu events will continue at temples throughout the seventh lunar month, so sporadic traffic controls near downtown temples can be expected in the near term.
