A long-shut lakeside park in northeastern Taiwan is set to reopen at the end of September with free entry, a small win for local tourism and nearby businesses.

• Yilan County closed the Dahu Scenic Area in Yuanshan Township back in 2020 to rebuild the grounds around the lake.
• Four rounds of construction cost roughly NT$93 million and covered a plaza, lakeside walking paths, a dock, ecological banks, boardwalks and a bridge repair.
• The site had been stuck for years because most of the land was privately owned and the lake itself was tied up in a legal fight between a leisure company and the local water authority.
• Officials also added a temporary parking lot and public restrooms after getting nearby landowners to agree.

Outlook: The park opens free of charge in late September, with a visitor center, shops, a market and boat facilities planned once more land is donated.
